The Importance of Self-Care and The Current State of America

This week has been exhausting. Watching murder after murder of innocent lives and feeling as if there is nothing that you can do about it. What is there to do when the world that we live in, and the country we're supposed to call home, does nothing but continuously show us that they think we are not worthy.

I often go back and forth, attempting to be as in tune with all that is going on in the States and the constant heartbreak that happens but in other moments... I just want to disconnect. To stop the endless slew of killings as a scroll through my social media feed and then I stop to think. I have the privilege of being able to click a button and erase the daily truths that so many of us can't escape.

For those currently living in America, there is no avoidance. There is no logging out.

Instead, there is a constant state of fear and the reality that, they could be next. It could be anyone. That the education, money, clothing, whatever you want to add to the list doesn't matter. Then my heart begins to hurt again and the only thing I can think about is when the cycle will end. America is in a state of turmoil but the most important things we can do in these moments is to protect our sense of self.

Take the time you need to heal. Surround yourself with those that love you. Love others. Realize that each day is sacred and there is power in living your truth. Have the conversations you need. Take the time to slow breathe and feel centered.

Remember you are capable of greatness and you never need to stay in a situation that you don't want to be in. Understand that you are worthy. Learn to say no. Listen to your gut and respect your sense of intuition.

Love harder. Love harder. Love harder.

And lastly, don't be afraid to embrace joy even though we are in times of hardship.
