In the past 5 weeks, I’ve moved to a new city, moved into a new apartment, dove into a new job with an amazing team, traveled to speak twice at an international conference, went back to Murcia for a weekend, traveled another time… but to Madrid for the LMDES event… and the list goes on. All of this in 5 weeks, while also trying to find time to settle in, explore the area, keep a business running and making time for me. Sounds like a lot right? Well, it was.
We need to live life more intentionally. Sometimes, life gives us a wake-up call to show us what we need to be changing and why. For me, I recently learned why I need to slow down, do one thing at a time and start being even more intentional with my actions. Keep reading to see how I turned two disasters into valuable lessons in being present.
Getting stressed out is easy. All you need is a sly comment from a colleague, too many things on your to-do list, a smooth scroll through social media to remind you that you “aren’t where you want to be.”As we go through life, many people consider being stressed as the norm. They think that it's something inevitable that we can’t avoid... it's what has to happen if we want success, right?
We reach a moment of escape, diving into a manifestation of beauty and desire. We move full circle, like the waves, realizing we must always come back to meet the sun.
What do we do to renew our energy? How easily do we let it slip away from us?
In the same way that water crashes into the sand, yet finds its way back to the depths of the sea; we do the same. With each day that passes, our thoughts, actions, motivations and desires ebb and flow, affecting the way we connect with ourselves and others.
At times, our energy can be ravenous, like waves colliding against the steep rocks. In other moments, it brings us peace with its melodic tune. Although our energy directly affects our actions, we must understand that, when we stop to listen, we can be in control. Like the sea, we’ll always find our way back to meet the sun.
I wrote this piece almost two years ago and since then, it's been widely shared in major publications like The Good Men Project and Elite Daily. Every time that I run into this piece, it still rings true and so I thought I'd share it with all of you in hopes that it reaches someone when they need it.
Sometimes it’s easy to settle and forget the kind of love that you deserve. This is a letter for me, for you and for anyone who might need a reminder of what that kind of love looks like — what you are worth.
You deserve more than someone who shifts to the other side of the bed, leaving you dreading the thought of morning, a reminder that intoxicated desire looks different a few hours later when the sun has risen.
You deserve someone who wants to wake up to touch that place on your face where the sun seeps through the blinds and lands on your cheek.
You deserve someone who tells you how beautiful you are while you’re sleeping, when you’re mad, when you cry during your favorite movie even though you’ve seen it a thousand times.
You deserve someone who appreciates you for who you are. You deserve someone who asks to keep the lights on so that he or she can admire you at all times.
You deserve someone who doesn’t agree with you all the time, but when you argue, it feels as if you’re pushing each other to be your best selves.
You deserve someone who wants to sit down and talk with you until dusk turns to dawn about new beginnings, desires and the unknown. Someone who knows that the touch of warm skin sometimes says more than a thousand conversations could.
You deserve someone who is just as independent and driven as you are — if not more so. You deserve someone who will inspire you — someone who will trust you enough to provide you with space to grow.
You deserve someone who pushes you to understand yourself, to be unashamed and courageous.
You deserve what is best for you, which looks different than what anyone else has. Although you’ll have to jump some hurdles, fight tears and endure nights alone to get there, when you finally stumble upon what you do deserve, from there, the rest won’t matter. Have faith that it will come when the time is right. You deserve it.
Someone who cares
What is it that we are searching for in this life that we're living?
The validation of others? The feeling that we’re making a difference? The undeniable beauty of watching the sunrise each morning and feeling life on your skin?
We all search for different things and we grow with each day, coming closer to what it is we really desire. How do you stay on the path towards what you define as greatness?
Take time today to stop and think. Write it down. Bask in the glory of the unknown.
As for me, I just want to love, create beautiful things and make a difference in the life of others.
Each time the moon is full, a lunar ambiance draws me in like a stream in the heat. You entrance me in the same way.
One summer night, weaving through an endless field with warm air carrying my fears away, I saw you in your purest state. Patiently waiting, full of glory, I journeyed on.
With all that I had and all that I lacked, you were ready to embrace me, reassurance that I was enough. That night, you opened your arms and brought me to the warm ocean. That night, I learned to truly let go. Drowning in awe, it felt like home.
Years later, I find you again, full in all of your glory. Now, you bring along distant memories. Now, you also remind me of him, synonymous in calling and the feeling of that embrace; reassuring that I am enough, just as I am.
My mind relives the ocean breeze; open arms, letting my soul rest with the calm of its sound. Filled with clarity and wonder, I’m comforted by the silence and the passion of your presence.
