When I was introduced to the 7in7 conference in Barcelona, I was intrigued to see what it was all about. You see, part of the focus is to shine a light on the voices and stories in the “digital nomad” world that don’t have a platform. It meant diversity and community. So, after speaking to Kit (one of the organizers) about how she wanted me to participate it was a definite yes.
As the year comes to an end, it brings us to a space of reflection. It’s an opportunity to better understand our experiences through a wider lens and it also allows us to see how we want to grow in the coming days, weeks and months. 2015 has been a revolutionary year in many different ways and I’m continuously grateful to where life has brought me as well as, where it is going.
While planning for 2016 has been well underway, I wanted to share three important ways that I've grown in the past year.
In 2015, I’ve put a heavy emphasis on self-love and acceptance. It has made a meaningful impact in my life and I am constantly realizing that when you take the necessary steps towards healing, everything else seems to fall into place. Sometimes, we need to put the same focus on loving and appreciating ourselves that we do on the ones around us.
For me, this has manifested in many ways.
Learning to apologize less.
Taking better care of my body by being conscious of what I consume.
Staying active and doing things that I love.
Learning to saying no more.
Respecting my sensitivity.
Surrounding myself with people who accept me for who I am.
WORK/LIFE BALANCE + PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
Many of us struggle with our work/life balances and some might even say that it doesn’t exist. I’ll be real, when I’m passionate about something; I work very hard at it. I used to think that meant, long days and constantly being connected to my computer but my mindset has changed. Since moving to Spain, I’ve been able to create a fulfilling life where work and play are becoming synonymous as time goes by.
I’ve been blessed with the growth of LMDES in the past year. I've also been humbled by the recognition in major publications like Huffington Post, Black Enterprise and JetSet Times. With each step forward that I take professionally, I continue to grow for myself, my team and those who look to me for inspiration. Both living abroad and my work dedication has allowed for me to have a freedom that was unimaginable two years ago.
In 2015, I’ve traveled more than ever both for work and recreation… again, it has really become one and the same. With each trip, I continue to learn about myself through the world around me. Having the freedom to travel is a luxury that I am constantly grateful for.
The most memorable trips of 2015 were
Porto was so special because it was my first solo trip, during a time in my life when I really needed it. It was a chance to escape, explore and understand the beauty of treating yourself.
Mallorca, Balearic Islands
Mallorca was amazing because it was the first opportunity that I had to drive in Europe, never the less, see some of the most amazing mountain and ocean views of my life. It was a breathtaking and relaxing trip and was also so special because it was the first LMDES team retreat.
I recently returned from Naples, Pompeii and Sorrento with my family and it was such a moving trip. Being able to share the gift of travel and experience new things with the ones you love the most makes a trip unforgettable.
